Nurturing can start even before the child is born

What makes a Bill Gates or a Coke Bolipata? We often read about these two talented people who almost drive themselves crazy with their passions in life. Gates is well-known for his phenomenal computer genius and Coke (a Filipino) was spotted in his early years for his sensitivity and talent in playing the violin. Did they live normal, average lives when they were children?
From what I have read, they were probably “different” from other children their age. One common denominator is that they grew up in environments that allowed them to pursue their interests, wi
th intensity and with gusto! Adults have to understand that of gifted persons: they do not easily blend with the norm.
Of course, we cannot easily say that the child is “gifted” if he is stubborn or insists on doing things his way (which seems to be an indicator of talented children). This may be part of his behavior, but it does not mean he has exceptional talent. However, talents and interests can be nurtured and many times with such care, you might have a Gates or Coke in the making!
How do you encourage and nurture talent in the young child? I do not think that genes alone make a talented kid. I think the most important factor is you. You should, first of all, want and enjoy the company of your child to enable him to “bloom” in his own time and place.
